As a naturopathic physician, I believe in the healing power of nature and the body's ability to heal itself. Symptoms are the result of the body's attempt to heal, not the cause of an illness which may be physical, mental, emotional, or spiritual. I support and assist the body's self-healing by identifying and removing obstacles to healing and recovery. Rather than eliminate or suppress symptoms, I seek to identify the underlying cause of an illness.
I see a patient's health problem as a puzzle that requires gathering all the necessary pieces of information to get an accurate picture of the whole. There may be other issues related to the health problem that are unknown, yet are essential in solving the puzzle.
My treatment approach is both preventive and natural. It's based on solid research and science. I treat acute disorders such as colds/flu, earaches, sore throat, digestive issues, etc, and chronic disorders such as fatigue, hormonal imbalances, cancer, neurological disorders, etc. in office and/or using laboratory testing. Treatment modalities include botanical medicines, nutrition, homeopathy, dietary and other lifestyle changes, and Traditional Chinese Medicine. I specialize in heavy metal diagnosis and detoxification, hormonal imbalances, immune restoration, and general health improvement.
As a naturopathic physician (ND), I received similar science training as an allopathic physician (MD), but in addition to a standard medical curriculum, I also completed training in clinical nutrition, acupuncture, homeopathy, botanical medicine, and lifestyle counseling. Like an MD, I am licensed to use all the modern diagnostic tools such as blood tests, x-rays, etc. so I perform similar tests, but I do more to gather additional information. I spend more time with patients asking and answering questions.
I am licensed as a primary care general physician by the State of Hawaii and have lived and practiced on the island of Kauai since 2003. I received my Bachelor's degree in physics from the State University of New York at Oswego. After completing a 4-year medical curriculum in naturopathic medicine, I obtained my Doctorate from Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine in Tempe, Arizona.
